"Universiti Putra Malaysia" is one of the leading universities in Malaysia, renowned for excellence in education and research. It is also a multicultural and multidisciplinary university. Located strategically within the Multimedia Super Corridor, it is close to Putrajaya (the new administrative capital of Malaysia) and also Cyberjaya. This proximity facilitates and enhances the university's opportunities for scientific and cultural interaction among its students and key decision-makers in the IT industry, scientific research, and major corporate entities.
Founded on May 21, 1931, by John Scott, an administrative officer of the British colonial government, it was initially called the "School of Agriculture." The school began modestly, offering two programs: the Certificate in Agriculture and the Diploma program. On June 23, 1947, Sir Edward Gent, then Governor of the Malayan Union, renamed the school to the "Malayan Agricultural College," and in the following year, 1948, the proposal to develop the college into a specialized university was suggested. In 1971, it was officially named the "Malaysian Agricultural University." The university witnessed rapid and tangible development, becoming one of the distinguished modern universities with a wide range of educational fields. In 1997, the former Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, announced the change of the university's name from the "Malaysian Agricultural University" to "Universiti Putra Malaysia." As for the university's achievements, it has been awarded the ISO 9000 certificate by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), affirming the university's excellence.
