Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)

The establishment of UTAR in Malaysia traces back to the story of Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman (KTAR). In 1964, the Malaysian Chinese Association proposed the idea of establishing a college named after Malaysia's first Prime Minister. On September 15, 1972, Dato' Hussein Onn, the then Minister of Education, handed over the instrument of governance to the college. A piece of land measuring 191 acres in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, was allocated for the construction of the KTAR campus. The establishment of KTAR provided the momentum and inspiration for the creation of a new private university. The proposal to establish a new private university was met with government approval.
